Dr. Elkins is an Advanced Fellow in Geriatrics at the Birmingham/Atlanta VA GRECC. She holds dual appointments in the Division of General Medicine and Geriatrics and the Division of Rehabilitation Medicine as Assistant Professor. The priority of Dr. Elkins is to develop a Health Services Research Center in Physical Therapy. Dr. Elkins physical therapy research interests are in evidence-based physical therapy practices and person environment fit as well as the use of tele-health applications to support rehabilitation services in remote and rural areas. Dr. Elkins has recently begun a new study in informal caregiving and health policy to support informal caregivers.
Dr. Elkins is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, the American Public Health Association and the Gerontological Society of America. She serves on the Aging and Public Health Policy Committee of the APHA.
